CHANDIGARH: Punjab Cooperation and Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has asked the Shiromani Akali Dal to ask the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to implement in the Swaminathan Commission report in true letter and spirit, a promise Modi made in 2014 Lok Sabha elections at Bathinda. He said that SAD president Sukhbir Badal to demand a Special package of Rs one Lakh crore for Punjab at pattern of Bihar, and relaxation of Industry like hilly states, before extending any thanks to Modi, who has not given fair deal to Punjab.

Advancing his argument further, S. Randhawa said that if the PM will announce a package for Punjab, congress will hold a Thanksgiving function, but if PM only promised moon to the people of Punjab while on ground he doesn’t announce any substantial package for Punjab then Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leadership would be fully exposed before the people of Punjab and the masks of its leaders would be off.

The Minister said that “everyone knows PM tells his ‘Mann ki Baat’, but no one in Punjab is interested to listen his “jumlas. And Punjabis has rejected Modi in 2014 and 2017 elections.” If PM coming to Punjab, the granary of India, instead of making speech, he must listen to Kisan Ki Baat. The farming community is not satisfied with hike, and already announced to boycott the rally”.

He said that it a matter of record that after coming to power the NDA government in Supreme Court of India, had given affidavit against the Swaminathan Commission report.

Flaying the SAD for organizing the ‘thanksgiving rally’ for PM for hiking MSP of paddy by Rs 200 per quintal, Randhawa said that the hike is not as per recommendations of the Swaminathan Report.

“The Prime Minister has betrayed the farmers. The Centre has to explain on what basis it has fixed the production cost of paddy,” said Randhawa adding that “PM has given step motherly treatment to Punjab, in terms of allocation of central Funds”.

While reminding Sukhbir that in 2014 elections Modi in rally addressed for Harsimrat Kaur Badal, had promised to implement Swaminathan report in letter and spirit, Randhawa said had the PM implemented the Swami Nathan Commission report, the MSP for paddy would have been around Rs. 2500.
