GoGs playing proactive in ensuring effective implementation of administrative reforms and govt schemes: General Shergill

The positive results of launching the unique and innovative scheme are quite visible at the ground level", said the Senior Advisor to the CM, Punjab, Lt. General T.S. Shergill while adding that keeping in view the success of the scheme, the state government has decided to extend the GoGs’ existing strength of 2900 to 6000 by year end and it would achieve the target of bringing all the villages under the umbrella of the scheme to ensure transparent, hassle free delivery mechanism of different public utility schemes at the cutting edge level.

Lt. Gen. T. S. Shergill, who was charing the meeting of SBS Nagar GoGs at Rattewal (SBS Nagar), today said that as per as filing reports on various issues by GoGs were concerned, Tarn Taran district was going on top where maximum percentage of issues highlighted by the GoGs, had been addressed while in rest of the state the address rate is eighty percent. He asked the DC Amit Kumar and SDM Aditya Uppal to act swiftly on the reports as soon as they get them from GoGs.

Speaking on the success rate of the GoGs’ working, Gen. Shergill said that the motive behind bringing out the scheme had been very much attained. After highlighting of the issues by the GoGs, district administrations and the state government are getting a huge success to sort out those issues within a stipulated time while earlier it was not easy to deal with these type of issues due to want of a proper channel, he added.

Urging the Sarpanches and other public representatives of the villages to cooperate with the GoGs positively to redress their problems, he said that the concept of GoG was devised for the betterment of society and to plug the loopholes in the use of development grants and effective implementation of welfare schemes.

Major General (Retd.) S.P.S. Grewal, MD PESCo and Vice Chairman GoG, while addressing the gathering, said that they should focus on the issues in an unbiased manner only. ‘Report the issues directly through the mobile app, so that they can be brought to the notice of concerned authority,’ he added. He asked the GoGs to stress upon the creation of sports infrastructure in the villages by convincing the panchayats and residents, so that the energy of youth could be channelized in a positive way.

Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar asked the GoGs to work as eyes and ears of the administration. He assured Gen. Shergill of taking a meeting of district head of GoGs on a monthly basis to sort out the issues flagged by the GoGs. Col. (Retd) S. S. Sekhon Vice President of District Sainik Board and District head of the GoGs, Col. (Retd.) Chuhar singh also addressed the GoGs. SDM Aditya Uppal and DSP Anil Kohli were also present there.
