GAD Vet Varsity scientist gets Achiever Award-2016

TARN TARAN: Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has been conferred with the “Achiever Award 2016” in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the field of agriculture in research, teaching and extension. In addition, he has also been awarded life membership of the Honorary Board and authorship of the society. The award has been bestowed upon the KVK scientist by the Society for Advancement of Human and Nature (SADHNA) of Dr Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan, Himachal Pradesh.
Dr Amarjit Singh Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, Dr JPS Gill, Director of Research and Dr H.K. Verma, Director of Extension Education, congratulated Dr Kumar for this achievement.
Dr Kumar has been involved in various research projects of the university. His research work is focused on agronomic aspects of forage crops viz. improving productivity, nutrition, seed production, weed control, bio-fortification, silage and managing abiotic stress conditions in the fodder crops. Besides, he has made an immense contribution to the agricultural and livestock science extension by conducting trainings and delivering fodder and silage related lectures at various forums.
Dr. Kumar has published 28 research papers, two review articles in national and international journals, and authored 50 extension articles. He has delivered 150 invited lectures, delivered 20 TV and Radio talks, and participated and organized 18 field days and animal welfare camps. Dr. Kumar has presented his research work in countries such as Brazil, Iran, Turkey and Thailand. Apart from this, Dr. Kumar has won many national awards from various registered societies. He had received Dr. JS Pruthi Award for publishing best research paper in the Journal of Spices and Aromatic Crops. He is Fellow Member of Society of Scientific Development in Agriculture and Technology and ASTHA, Meerut. He is also recipient of Young Scientist Award, Outstanding Achievement award and Scientist of the Year Award. He has won two best poster awards at National conferences. Dr. Kumar is also Associate Editor of three reputed agricultural research journals and reviewer of many journals having high impact factor.
