PHAGWARA: Former Punjab Minister and President of District Congress Committee Kapurthala  Joginder Singh Mann today said that the decision of the BJP led NDA government to reduce GST on 211 items was a desperate attempt to win ensuring polls in Gujarat.

In a statement issued here today, the former Minister said that this ‘Interim relief’, is a strategy of the Union government to garner support in view of the ensuing elections in Gujarat.  Mann said that the BJP government at the centre is well aware of the fact that its anti-people policies have ruined every strata of the society due to which it is too difficult for it to win Gujarat polls. He said that keeping in view this fact the Union government has now taken this step, which is a futile attempt to mislead people.

The former Minister said that this political move of the BJP will hardly pay to it as the wise people of the country especially of Gujarat are well aware of the anti-people face of this party. He said that be it be demonetization or GST or any other policy of the NDA government, it has further accentuated the woes of a common man who is helpless to manage even two square meals a day due to spiralling prices in this difficult phase. Mann said that the economic policies of the Prime Minister  Narendra Modi are detrimental for the country.

The former Minister said that nothing has been achieved from the demonetization except the undue harassment of general public, who faced a lot of inconvenience due to it. Likewise, he said that the ill-planned imposition of GST has further ruined the traders.  Mann said that people will teach BJP a lesson by ousting them from power in Gujarat.
