CHANDIGARH: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has strongly condemned the hike in electricity tariff by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) which is unwarranted and unacceptable.

Harpal Singh Cheema Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha said that fuel surcharge was increased from 8 paise per unit to 12 paise on metered and unetered power connections. He said that the hike would burden domestic, industrial and farming power consumers. The hike would put an extra burden of Rs.150 crores per anum. He added that power rates in Punjab were already highest in the country.

He said that PSPCL was reeling under financial crisis due to non-payment of funds by Punjab Government on account of subsidy given to various sections of society. He said that Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh must address the issue immediately and set off the losses of PSPCL due to subsidy. He said that Capt Amarinder government had promised to supply cheap power to consumers but it is going in the reverse gear.
