10th National Livestock Championship and Expo-2017 slated for 1st to 5th December, 2017

CHANDIGARH : For upliftment of financial status of farmers of Punjab by promoting dairy, piggery, goat and equine farming amongst the farmers of Punjab, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development & Fisheries Punjab in collaboration with FICCI is organizing 10th National Livestock Championship and Expo-2017 from 01 -05 Dec 2017 at Village Jahlan on Patiala Sangrur road, Patiala.
Disclosing this Director Animal Husbandry Punjab, Dr Amarjit Singh said that in this championship livestock farmers of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pardesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Delhi, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pardesh etc will participate. He added that competitions would be held for 92 different classes of horses, cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat, piggery, poultry, dogs etc and prizes worth Rs 1.25 Crores of Rupees will be awarded to the owners of winning animals.
Dr Amarjit stressed that with only 2% population of breedable cattle and buffalo, Punjab is contributing 7 % of total milk production of India. Per Capita availability of Milk is 1035 grams which is almost thrice the national per capita availability of milk. A state of art Livestock Expo-2017 will be organized on all the five days with the help of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FICCI) in which more than 200 companies related to Animal husbandry, Dairy, Fisheries, Feed and Fodder, Food processing and agriculture will exhibit their products and new technology for the livestock farmers.
Seminars on the subjects related to Animal husbandry, dairy, piggery, goatry, indigenous breeds and food processing will be organized in morning and evening sessions on all the five days and the queries of livestock farmers will be answered on the spot. Punjab has vast opportunities in pig and goat rearing sector and by adopting it as main or allied business, farmers can get handsome returns from it, Dr Amarjit Singh added. He called upon all stake holders to take part in this livestock competition and expo-2017 , in a big way as the function was likely to witness a footfall of more than 5 lac.
