CHANDIGARH : To sort out the problem of overcharging of fees and to stop the exploitation of any kind, the Punjab Education Department today gave the final touch to the draft of the Regulatory Authority for private unaided schools of the state.

Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Education Minister, Punjab said that the draft policy was finalized in a marathon meeting held with senior officials of the department. The draft would be submitted before the Chief Minister Punjab for approval.

Dr. Cheema said that the department is very much concerned about the reports of the exploitation of the parents and students by some private unaided schools who were collecting heavy fee and also indulging other undesired activities like forcing the parents to buy books from specified shops and also compelling the parents to buy uniform as per the school instructions. Dr. Cheema said that such undesired activities can not be allowed to proceed unhindered so the department after carefully considering the reports had taken a decision few months back to establish an independent authority to put a stop to such corrupt practices. For this, the process of consultation with the stake holders was underway for a long time and after completing this process the department has formulated a comprehensive plan to check these mal practices.

He said that the draft prepared for the establishment of the Regulatory Authority will able to check all these unwanted activities in an effective manner. He said that with this finalization of draft, the long wait is over. Principal Secretary Mr. G Vajralingam and other senior officers of the department were also present in the meeting.
