2 teachers to get Lifetime Achievement award : Dr Cheema

CHANDIGARH : The Education Department, Punjab, has adopted a novel approach towards honouring the teaching community. As a step in the direction of encouraging teachers to do even better, the department has decided to honour 2 teachers with the ‘Lifetime Achievement’ award this time. Under the initiative, 1 teacher each from male and female categories would be selected and presented with the award at state level function of ‘Teachers Day’ on 5th September. The award would include the prize money of Rs. 1 lakh in each category.


Disclosing this here today, Education Minister, Punjab, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema said that it has also been decided to increase the prize money of ‘State Awards’ from Rs. 10, 000 to Rs. 25, 000.

The Minister said that the role of a teacher assumes paramount significance in the noble profession of teaching. He also said that a society is truly considered a progressive one if it honours its teachers which explains the starting of ‘Lifetime Achievement’ awards for the teachers whether serving or retired as a mark of respect to their yeoman’s services rendered.
