FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO), the women business wing of the Federation of Indian chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) as part of widening its reach to various regions across the nation and creating a niche as a pan- India organization for women empowerment launched its 15th Chapter in Holy city Amritsar today.

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday lambasted the SAD-BJP combine for the financial mismanagement and malfeasance unleashed in the state during their decade-long misrule, vowing not to spare anyone found guilty of the acts of commission and omission done by them.

With a dire warning about the looming future of a waterless world, Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has made a plea for mobilising humanity to save the rivers of India and the world before it is too late.

India has shared with other countries its insights on empowering rural women and girls at an event on the sidelines of the meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women drawing on its many programmes.

On this International Women’s Day, the women folk of Punjab is basking in the glory of pride and self esteem, when President of India today conferred the coveted National “Nari Shakti Puraskar” to the State of Punjab for making outstanding contribution towards women empowerment. This prestigious award was conferred to the state of Punjab during a grand function organized at Rashtarpati Bhawan, New Delhi on the occasion of International Women’s Day. Mrs. Razia Sultana, Social Security and Women and Child Development Minister Punjab received the award on behalf of Mr. Amarinder Singh, Chief Minister, Punjab. Mr. K.B.S. Sidhu , Special Chief Secretary (SS & WCD) and Mrs. Kavita Singh, Director (SS & WCD) were accompanying Mrs. Razia Sultana for receiving the award.

Today, the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association Celebrated a International Women’s day in the Auditorium, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh in the presence of Hon’ble Mr. Justice, T.P.S. Mann and other Hon’ble Judges, Advocate Generals Punjab and Haryana along with Lady Advocates and Other Members of the Bar Association. More than 500 Advocates attended this function. Mrs. Gauri Prashar Joshi, Director, Social Justice and Empowerment, Haryana also attended the function.

 “Every single person who comes into the world has a right to dignified life, hope to achieve anything and equal opportunities.” These views were expressed by the former Union Minister Mrs. Preneet Kaur here today during ‘Women’s Pride Conclave’ organized by Zee Punjab Haryana Himachal (ZPHH) as part of the ‘International Women’s Day’.

 On the occasion of International Women's Day, there were various events of celebrations and deliberations organised at Khalsa College of Education, Khalsa College for Women, Khalsa College of Nursing andother institions being run under Khalsa College Governing Council. There was a Poster Exhibition organized by the Khalsa College of Nursing students outside Khalsa College where the theme of 'Press for Progress' given by United Nations- Women was emphasized.

Saluting their commitment and acknowledging their success, Punjab Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu reached the Indo-Pak border fence to celebrate Women's Day with brave hearts guarding the borders.

CHANDIGARH: A decision of the Union Grants Commission (UGC) is likely to bring more future bureaucrats who have sufficient practical knowledge in community services during their academic career as the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) had already accorded its nod to incorporate NSS as an elective subject at graduation level.

H.P. State Commission for Women has asked all the District Programme. Officers (ICDS) to submit the list of such NGOs/voluntary organizations in their respective district registered under Society Act, 2006.

The Panjab University has finally decided to introduce National Service Scheme (NSS) as an elective subject in all colleges affiliated to the university from this session.  It is revealed by Mr Bikram Rana, SLO, NSS Cell, Chandigarh.  A decision to this effect has been conveyed to all universities across the country to introduce NSS as an elective subject.

JALANDHAR: Reiterating the firm commitment of Congress party for empowering the women in the country, Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjeet Singh today said that introduction of 50% reservation to ladies in civic bodies was a step towards this direction.

For the first time the bar members of Punjab and Haryana judiciary have come together for a unique initiative. Serving in Organizations for Legal Initiatives (SIOLI) and Punjab and Haryana Bar Association have taken the onus on themselves. The members are organizing a Gramotsav, village walk at Village Seonk of Chandigarh. This initiative is aimed at improving the livelihood and living standards of the residents of the villages particularly of women and children.
