Punjab to set up land banks in GMADA

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Cabinet today approved a modification in the Land Pooling Policy-2013 in order to create Land Banks for the proposed Aero City Expansion Project of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA), with a minimum of 15% compensation to be given to the land owners.

Punjab Agricultural University holds Kisan Mela at Krishi Vigyan Kendra,Patiala

unjab Agricultural University today organized Kisan Mela at KVK, Rauni that saw the participation of a large number of farmers. The series of Kharif melas are being organized under the theme of decreasing input costs, conserving water along with judicious use of fertilizer, adopting subsidiary occupations so as to make agriculture more profitable for the farmers. Dr G.S. Nanda, Member, Board of Management, PAU inaugurated the mela and urged the farmers to consider agricultural diversification as means to increase farm income. He appreciated the large scale participation of farmers and their interest in the various stalls and exhibitions put up by the university.

Punjab's new Excise Policy slashes number of liquor vends

 The Punjab cabinet today approved the new Excise Policy for the state, with the aim of breaking the monopoly in the liquor business and keeping liquor prices under control, by slashing the Group size from Rs 40 crore to Rs 5 crore, thus increasing the number of Groups from the current 84 to around 700 in the next fiscal.

Punjab CM orders vigilance probe into alleged nexus of Dera Bassi officials with illegal mining mafia

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday ordered a Vigilance Inquiry into the alleged nexus between top officials and the illegal mining mafia in the Dera Bassi area, while directing the concerned departments to shunt out the SDM, DSP and SHO, pending the investigation.
While SDM Paramdeep Singh has been asked to report to the Chief Secretary’s office, DSP PS Bal and SHO Pawan Kumar have been shifted to the police lines, an official spokesperson disclosed.

Punjab CM admits illegal mining and Goonda Tax collection, asks SSPs to take strict action

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday admitted the practice of illegal mining and collection of Goonda Tax in the state even after one year of Congress coming to power in state. He ordered the DCs and SSPs to crack down in full force to put an end to all illegal mining and the so-called ‘goonda tax’, which he said must be stopped with ‘full firmness and strict action.’
