SAD to approach High court CJ to request rejection of Justice MS Gill’s candidature as Lokpal

CHANDIGARH: Former deputy chief minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal today announced the party would write to Punjab and Haryana high court chief justice Krishna Murari not to approve former judge Mehtab Singh Gill’s name for appointment as Lokpal, saying the judge was a known Congress worker as well as Akali baiter and could not be expected to perform his duties in an honest and non-partisan manner.

5th Gill Commission interim report finds 41 cases to be false

In its 5th interim report submitted to Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh today, Justice (Retd.) Mehtab Singh Gill Commission of Inquiry has recommended action, mainly cancellation of FIRs, in 41 cases, taking the total number of such cases so far to 258.
Among the cases in which cancellation has been recommended in this report are FIRs against Vijay Sayal, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Gurdaspur, and Sikh religious preacher Baljit Singh Daduwal, both of which which the Commission described as culmination of vendetta resulting from their refusal to obey the diktats of former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and former Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.

SAD-BJP delegation urges Governor to direct Congress govt to implement complete farm loan waiver

A joint SAD-BJP delegation today urged Punjab Governor V P Singh Badnore to direct the Congress government to implement a complete Rs 90,000 crore farm loan waiver for all farmers and ensure loans of farm laborers and dalits are also waived off. Punjab CM clears 1.15 lakh more farm debt waiver cases worth Rs.500 crores

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has cleared 1.15 lakh more cases for debt waiver amounting to Rs 580 crore, to be disbursed to farmers across the state before January 31, 2018.
