AMRITSAR: SAD former MLA and serving Chairman of Amritsar District Planning Committee Veer Singh Lopoke has been awarded one year imprisonment by the local of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Sandeep Singh Josan here today.
Confirming the case verdict delivered by the ACJM, advocate Mandeep Singh Mohar said that case of defamation was filed under section 500 IPC in the local court of ACJM against Veer Singh Lopoke for making false propaganda against Congress MLA Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria during the general assembly elections 2012.
Advocate Mandeep Singh Mohar said that court besides one year punishment to Lopoke also imposed fine of Rs. 5000.
After the court verdict, Lopke was granted bail by the court with the condition to file appeal in the higher court within the period of thirty days.
However, it may be mentioned here that Congress candidate Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria won the assembly election two times in a row after defeating his rival SAD candidate Veer Singh Lopoke.
Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria in the court has alleged that Veer Singh Lopoke had used defamatory language and fake allegations of rape during the election campaign and during court preceding no legitimate proof was produced against him (Sarkaria).
