Union Home Minister pays obeisance at Golden Temple

AMRITSAR: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh paid obeisance at the sanctum Sanctorum of the Golden Temple here today. He was accompanied by the Punjab BJP leader and union Minister Vijay Sampla, member parliament of SAD Prem Singh Chandumajra and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Shwait Malik.

Later he was honoured by the SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal at the Information Centre of Golden Temple with set of Sikh religious books, woollen Shawls and replica of Golden Temple.

Afterward he went to historic Jallianwalla Bagh where he unveiled the statue of Shaheed  Udham Singh who had laid down his life for the freedom of nation during freedom struggle of Indian nation.

Addressing the gathering at  Jallainwalla Bagh, Rajnath Singh, after unveiling the statute of Shaheed Udham Singh said that insult of any statute belonging to any martyr would never be tolerated, if any such incident came in light a strict action against the culprit to be initiated, in this regard a clear cut directions  were issued to the Authorities concerned all over the India.

Nevertheless to say that in past the statue of some freedom fighters were defaced and some were broken at various States of the Nation, but now no such things would never be tolerated, said he adding that “Since the emotions and sentiments of the people are attached and such incidents hurt deeply people in large”

Talking about the freedom fighters who scarified their lives for the freedom of nation, he said, “Most of the freedom fighters were young having age between 16 to 26 years and they were carrying the strong determination to get free the nation from Britishers as a reason today we all are enjoying freedom”.  

During his address he mentioned the name of Mahtama Gandhi, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Udham Singh, Chandershekar Azad and  Ashfaq  Ullah Khan and various other freedom fighters, said that all the freedom fighter were great as without caring about their lives they fought for the freedom of nation.

Lauding the Chander Shekar Azad he said, Shekar during his life time used to say he would never die with the bullet of enemy and during fight with the Britsher Police he shot himself when last bullet left in his pistol.

He also appreciated Ashfaq  Ullah Khan who used to laugh when his mother asked him for marriage and when he was being hanged conveyed message to his mother by saying he was going to get married  with death gallow, he was hanged at the age of just 21and nation would never forget the sacrifice of all such young freedom fighters.

Talking about the massacre of Jallainwalla Bagh he said that when after the mass killing of innocent freedom fighters here, the freedom moment get boost since youth of Indian nation were emotionally disturbed and Bhagat Singh and Udham Singh were among them who had pledged to get the nation free.

He announced that century of Jallianwalla Bagh to be observed nationwide on April 13.
