PHAGWARA: “Fancy Cloth Store” a renowned cloth shop in the Gaushala Bazar in the Corporation city Phagwara was gutted in fire which erupted here in wee hours on Friday. Clothes worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in the fire. Short-circuiting was stated to be the reason behind the incident.
According to eyewitnesses,  the fire spread in the shop  in few minutes and turned all the material into ashes.
Amit Kumar @ Sunny, owner of the shop, said the electricity supply wires dangle outside the shops in the market. He said yesterday he went away after closing his shop on Thursday night. At around 4.00 AM, he received a call from his friend shopkeeper Ashwini Kumar that dense smoke and flames were emitting out of his shop. Ashwini himself informed the fire brigade and Powercom staff to cut the power supply in the area in order to control and douse the fire.
Three Fire Tenders of Phagwara Fire Brigade made hard efforts of three and half hours to control the fire, which could destroy the adjoining shops too.
