CGC Jhanjeri Boys & Girls Shine in PTU's Badminton Tournaments

MOHALI: The Boys as well as the Girls teams of Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri made their mark in Punjab Technical University's Inter College Badminton Tournaments by winning Silver Medals. The Boys Team had a tougher competition as the number of participating teams was a whooping 19, whereas the number of Girls Teams was only 09.

In the first round, CGC Jhanjeri Girls made a clean sweep by beating LCET, Katani Kalan by 2-0. In both the semifinal matches, based on best of five, they defeated BBSBEC Fatehgarh Sahib as well as Sachdeva College, Kharar by 3-0. Thus CGC Jhanjeri Girls won Runners-up Trophy and Silver Medals. In addition to this victory, Shiksha Sharma & Abhima Sharma of CGC Jhanjeri were selected as members of IKG PTU's Badminton team for playing Inter University Tournament. The Boys team of CGC Jhanjeri also gave an equally good performance. In the first round they made a clean sweep by beating BGIET Sangrur by 2-0 and then defeated BCET Gurdaspur by 2-1. The team won semifinal matches based on best of five by defeating DAVIET Jalandhar 4-1 and then CGC Landran by 3-0. Thus CGC Jhanjeri Boys team won

Runners-up Trophy and Silver Medals. In addition to this honour, Piyush and Rahul Raghwa of CGC Jhanjeri were selected in PTU’s Badminton Team for playing Inter University Tournament.

Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, President CGC congratulated the winning teams as well as their coaches. He announced a cash prize for all the members of both the winning teams. Dr. G.D Bansal, Director General said that CGC Jhanjeri lays equal emphasis on academics as well as sports. It is due to this that the students of this college have already won six trophies and more then 50 medals in various Inter College Sports Competitions of  PTU.
