Jalandhar DC orders schools to open at 10 AM due to smog

JALANDHAR: In view of the cover of smog engulfing the region, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar  Varinder Kumar Sharma has ordered that all the government, government aided and private schools in the district would commence study at 10 am in the morning.

In the orders issued here today, the Deputy Commissioner cum District Magistrate vide exercising powers under section 144 of the
CRPC, 1973 has said that these orders would be in force till the further orders. Expressing concern over the smog along with the advent
of winter season, Mr. Sharma said that this could cause a huge damage to the health of the children. He however, clarified that the school
management would have the option of fixing the closing time of the schools.

The Deputy Commissioner said that in order to ensure the safety and security of the school going students this order was necessitated. He
said that due to smog some mishaps have been reported in the state due to which utmost care needs to be exercised adding that the decision
has been taken to ensure the security of the children and school staff. He also asked all the Commissioner of Police, Senior
Superintendent of Police (Rural) and all officers of the district administration along with District Education Officers (Elementary and
Secondary) to ensure the strict compliance with these orders from tomorrow.
