RBU V-C underlines role of teachers

MOHALI: Dr Daljit Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University, here today underlined the special contribution of teachers to the society and paid tributes for their valuable role in shaping the country’s future.

He was addressing a function to mark Teacher’s Day which was celebrated with enthusiasm on the university campus.

Speaking on the occasion Dr Singh said that teachers are the backbone of our society. They truly play a great role in building up the character of students and shape them to become ideal citizens. He added they are the source of inspiration which help to get success. He also motivated the teachers to honestly focus on their professional duties.

The Vice-Chancellor said that the teachers should follow the footsteps of Dr S Radhakrishnan to become role models for the students. He said that the teachers should update their knowledge from time to time as there is fast development all around.

A cultural programme, prepared and presented by the students for the teachers was a highlight of the function. Students presented different items like ‘Saraswati vandana’, speech on teacher-student relations, poetry recitation, song, western dance, shabad, bhangra, highlighting everlasting influence of a teacher.

University School of Education and Social Sciences had organized a poetry Competition “A salute to Teachers”. Dr. Indu Rihani, Dean University School of Education and Social Sciences wished all the faculty members ‘A Happy Teachers Day’ and welcomed all the dignitaries .Renowned personalities Dr.Satpal Grewal , Retd. Principal Shivalik Institute of Education and Research, Ph-VI, Mohali and Mrs. Neena Bahl, Assistant Director, All India Radio, Chandigarh judged the event. Shivani was judged First, Gaurav was judged second and jashanpreet and Rahul were judged third in the event. Certificates were given to the winners and participants.
