One officer, one drug peddler is CPs new strategy to combat drug menace

JALANDHAR: In order to curb the menace of drugs from the Jalandhar Commissionerate, the Commissioner of Police has formulated a strategy of entrusting the work of arresting 45 identified drug peddlers/ Public Offenders (POs) and Parole Jumpers under NDPS Act to each senior officers of the force.

As per the strategy 45 senior officers of the Commissionerate Police including 29 Gazetted Officers (GOs) have been given the task of arresting these 45 dreaded criminals to ensure that the scourge of drug was completely eliminated from the district. The Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar has given the task of arresting these 45 criminals to each of these 45 officers. These officers have been asked to accomplish the task in a professional and time bound manner so that they criminals could be nabbed.

Divulging more details, the Commissioner of Police said that the move was aimed at giving a final blow to drug peddlers and curse of drugs in the district. He said that each officer would be made accountable for arresting these drug peddlers/ POs and Parole Jumpers against whom case has been registered under NDPS Act.  Bhullar said that the efficiency of these officers in arresting every drug peddler allotted to them would reflect in their Annual Confidential Report (ACR).

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, while reiterating the firm commitment of Jalandhar Commissionerate Police to wipe out the menace drugs from district, said that in last six months during the current year Commissionerate Police has registered 102 cases against the drug peddlers under the NDPS Act adding that 135 people have been arrested in this regard. He said that the Police has recovered 2.50 kilograms of Heroin, 16.50 kilograms of Opium, 676 grams of Intoxicant Powder, 387.50 kilograms of Poppy Husk, 150 grams of Smack, 8.60 kilograms of Ganja, 145 grams of Charas, 3721 capsules, 473 injections, 25, 000 tablets and 199 bottles of syrup from drug peddlers. Mr. Bhullar said that besides it one pistol (32 bore) with five live cartridges, one country made (desi) pistol (315 bore) with three cartridges, one Honda City Car, One Truck and currency notes too have been recovered from smugglers. He said that the drive against drugs would continue in coming days too.
