Landmark day for Gian Sagar; 60 eye surgeries in one day

PATIALA: It was a landmark day for the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital when Dr Balbir Khan, of the Department of Ophthalmology, performed 60 eye surgeries on a single day at the hospital today.

A day before Dr Khan had examined over 400 patients at a free eye checkup camp at Bhawanigarh in Sangrur district where those needing surgery were told to report at the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital for surgery. The free eye checkup camp had been organised by the hospital in collaboration with the Rotary Club.

Dr AS Sekhon, a representative of the Gian Sagar Management, lauding the feat of Dr Khan in operating 60 patients on a single day said that the Gian Sagar Educational and Charitable Trust was committed to providing quality healthcare facilities to the underprivileged and deserving sections of the society.

He said Dr Khan had carried out over 5000 successful diabetic viteromics. His sheer number of surgeries and success ratio puts him in a distinct club of surgeons, who are widely respected for their professional services in the eye care segment.

Dr Khan is among the most competent surgeons in his domain with over 11 years of working experience. A career gold Medalist, Dr Khan has performed over 10, 000 successful vitreo-retinal surgeries and thousands of stitch less procedures especially green lasers for Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and surgeries for its stage IV, he added.

Dr Sekhon said that the Emergency department at the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital had already been made functional. The indoor and outpatient departments had also become functional. He said that the super specialties in the Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital were now being reopened in view of the healthcare needs of the people of the area. The hospital would soon offer super specialties of neurology, gastroenterology, pediatric surgery, and urology among others. It’s very well equipped radio diagnostic department which has best machines available in the country.
