Government hospitals in Punjab faces shortage of doctors, para-medical staff

PHAGWARA: Despite long claims of the State Government to provide best medical facilities in the Government hospitals and repeatedly inspiring and appealing to the people to take advantage of best medical services being provided in Govt Hospitals, several posts of Medical Officers and even Para-Medical Staff in most of the civil hospitals are lying vacants and patients are facing much inconvenience.

This Correspondent has collected some important details,which were confirmed by Civil Surgeon Kapurthala Dr HS Kahlon too, according to which in New Modern Jail Kapurthala Two Posts out of total three are lying vacant for the last several months. Interestingly Six Posts of Medical Officers out of total nine including Two Medical Officers, One Epidemiologist, One MO In Police Line Dispensary are lying vacant at Civil Surgeon Office ie district head quarter. Moreover Three Posts out of total four in Special Care New Born Unit of Civl Hospital Kapurthala are lying vacant.

In Phagwara Civil Hospital total Five Posts out of total 22 including psychiatrist and Radiologist are lying vacant. Senior Medical Officer Dr Davinder Singh while confirming it told this correspondent here today that even half dozen posts of Staff Nurses are lying vacant in 110 Bed Civil Hospital Phagwara.

In Sultanpur Lodhi Five Posts out of total 15 are lying vacant including Radiologist and Gynecologist. In Dhilwan One out of total Three Posts are lying vacant while in Begowal One post o gynecologist is lying vacant.

It was also reliably learnt that Only Six Radiologists are working in entire 22 Districts of the State. Civil Surgeon Kahlon however said the department is providing sufficient facilities to the patients even then. How? The answer could be reserved only with higher authorities of Health Department Punjab.
