Vice President of India presides over meeting to discuss issue concerning Panjab University

Chandigarh/Jalandhar : At the request of Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, V P Badnore, Vice President of India and Chancellor, Panjab University M. Venkaiah Naidu presided over a meeting convened in his office at New Delhi to discuss issues of concern to Panjab University. The VC, P.U. and representatives of MHRD, GOI and UGC were also invited to the meeting.
Hon’ble Governor of Punjab explained the importance of a premier academic institution and its pivotal role in bringing together all academic institutions and National laboratories under the umbrella of Chandigarh Knowledge and Innovation Cluster (CRIKC). The concerns of P.U. in the implementation of the recommendation of 7th Pay commission in view of its special status as an inter-state body corporate were shared by P.U. Vice Chancellor.
The Chancellor was apprised of how the internal income of P.U. would be inadequate with the enhanced financial requirements in the near future. The representatives of MHRD explained the limitations of Government of India to fully meet all the requirements of P.U. in view of its special status as an inter-state body corporate.
Hon’ble Vice President of India appreciated the role of P.U. as a National institution with rich heritage.
The Chancellor, P.U. assured support on behalf of his office to attend to the needs of P.U. The Chancellor has accepted to visit P.U. as Chief Guest at its Annual Convocation on March 4, 2018.
