Seminar on Mental Health organised at CGC Landran

MOHALI: A seminar on ‘Mental Health and Human Resilience: Societal Concerns’ was organised by College of Education, Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran.

The objective of the event was to initiate important conversations about mental health and dispel the stigmas associated with the same. It also sought to encourage young people to stay happy, communicate more openly with their friends and family, adopt a fit lifestyle incorporating breathing exercises, yoga and meditation in their daily routines so as to fight off stress and feel comfortable with their mental well being.

The event was attended by Dr. Pramod Kumar, Senior Consultant Psychiatry, PGIMER, Chandigarh, the keynote speaker at the occasion, Chief Guest Dr Kulwinder Singh, Professor Department of Education and Community Service, Punjabi University, Patiala.

Interacting with students and faculty, Dr Kumar touched upon the topic of depression sharing insights about the ways and means to overcome the same. He also urged the audience to inculcate healthy eating habits and lead an active lifestyle interspersed with yoga and mindfulness. Sharing his views Dr Kulwinder Singh observed how the fast pace of contemporary lifestyle was leading to undue stress and anxiety. He advocated the adoption of reading, good education, healthy eating and the principle of high thinking and simple living to strengthen one’s mental resiliency.
