RBU students rally against paddy stubble burning

MOHALI: University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the Rayat Bahra University here today organized a rally on air pollution due to paddy stubble burning.

The rally was taken out from University campus to village Sahauran under the banner of NSS wing, University School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (USPS). The rally was taken out under the supervision of Registrar Dr OP Middha, Officiating Dean Dr Shoaib Ahmad and HOD of Pharmacology Dr Gurfateh Singh.

Over 120 students participated in the rally to save the environment from pollution. Banners prepared by the students were also displayed at the rally and the students held discussions with residents of village Sahauran and made them aware of the health hazards of stubble burning.

They told the residents that paddy stubble burning was causing dangerous air pollution causing adverse health effects in majority of population which necessitates drastic steps involving all the stake holders.

The students also explained to the villagers the measures that the punjab government had taken to provide subsidised farm equipment and agro-machinery for in-situ management of paddy straw. Under this programme, the Agriculture department had so far distributed 2149 Rotavators, 2174 happy seeders, 192 paddy chopper combo, 1047 paddy straw mulcher, 1052 MB Plough and 1148 Zero Till Drill machines to prevent stubble burning.
