International Nursing Day Celebrated at Khalsa College of Nursing

AMRITSAR: International Nurses Day (IND) was celebrated at Khalsa College of Nursing to mark the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, founder of Nursing Profession on the theme “Nurses, A voice to lead: Health for all”. The function commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Dr. Inderjit Kaur, Patron-President, All India Pingalwara Charitable Society, Amritsar who was earlier welcomed by Principal on the campus.

Dr. Kaur in her inaugural address highlighted the criticality of nursing as a profession within health care sector and its focus on the care of individuals, families and communities so that they may attain, maintain or restore optimal health and quality of life. She emphasized the importance of recognizing the contributions and commitments of the nurses to the societies across the world.

The speakers said that providing essential health care services to vulnerable populations is the foundation of the nursing profession, which is underpinned by a code of ethics ensuring the provision of health care to all, regardless of race, gender, religion, ethnicity or wealth. The kits having educational and public information materials with the theme "Nurses, A voice to lead: Health for all” were distributed during the special camp organized at the ocassion.


Principal said the programme is dedicated to 550th birthday celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji and advised the nursing students to affirm the faith by taking pledge to upgrade their skills and knowledge so that they can deliver qualitative health care services. A paper presentation was given by Dr. Sukhjinder Kaur, Lecturer, Khalsa College of Nursing, Amritsar highlighting the theme.

During the question-answer session, the students deliberated upon maintenance of balance between body, mind and spirit with the help of panel discussion. The celebration also included a cultural program by the students to uphold the spirit of the day to the noble profession of nursing along with prize distribution to students for their academic achievements extra-curricular performances.
