Channi orders probe into Post-Matric Scholarships

PHAGWARA: Punjab Technical Education and Industrial Training Minister Charanjit Singh Channi while taking a vow to crackdown on corruption, said a thorough departmental probe would be conducted regarding ‘Post-Matric Scholarships’ concerning Scheduled Caste students.

Talking to this correspondent at the residence of PPCC State General Secretary Balbir Raja Sodhi at local Urban Estate here on Wednesday afternoon, he said Principal Secretary Technical Education Kahan Singh Pannu has been asked to investigate the irregularities and Corruption done during the SAD—BJP Rule and IAS officer has been asked to submit his report in one month.

He also pledged to create a conducive atmosphere for studies and ensuring quality infrastructure in the technical education institutions in the state. “Meritorious students would be sent abroad for higher studies at government expense which would save them from being exploited by the unscrupulous.

Technical Education Minister disclosed that State Government will soon set up “Punjab Technical Colleges Regulatory Commission” to monitor the working of the Technical Education Institutions and a bill in this regard would be brought in next Assembly Session. Channi said that the efforts are being made for strengthened Co-Ordination among Technical Education, Higher Schools and Colleges. Replying a question Channi disclosed that New Vice-Chancellor of Punjab Technical University would be appointed in next two months.

The Minister said his priority would be to bring radical changes in the technical education in the state.
he said evaluation of the present syllabi in the technical education institutions would be carried out and it would be replaced by the syllabi in accordance with demands of the industry.
The syllabi would be of the level of IITs and other prominent institutions in the country, Channi said. Outlining his vision, he divulged that the youth of the state would be encouraged to pursue technical education. Besides, improving the functioning of institutions imparting technical education would also be the priority, he said. Punjab Mahila Congress Vice-President Balbir Rani Sodhi was also present. It may be mentioned here that Technical Education Minister Channi is himself doing Diploma in Human Rights and Ph.D on Indian National Congress in Punjab University Chandigarh.
