Dr Shahid Athar presented Interfaith Ambassador 2017 Award

CARMEL (INDIANA): Renowned Endocrinologist Dr  Shahid Athar on Saturday night was felicitated with the Interfaith Ambassador of the Year Award 2017 in rocognition to his commitment and devotion to the  building of Interfaith relationship, during the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at Carmel Christian Church which was sponsored by Carmel Interfaith Alliance.
Carmel Interfaith Alliance President Rev Jerry Zehr and CIC  Executive Director Charlie Wiles presented the Interfaith Ambassador of the Year Award 2017 to Dr Shahid Aktar.
Keeping in view the most valuable contribution for the welfare of the community, City of Carmel Mayor James Brainard, also proclaimed the 19th of November in the year 2017 as Dr Shahid Athar Day. City council member Laura Campbell read out the Proclamation issued by Mayor Brainard.
Congresswoman Susan Brooks , City council members Bruce Kimball, Laura Campbell, Cantor Melissa Cohen, Muzaffar Ahmad, Ensemble from the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, Rabbi Stanley Halpern,Father Bill Bartz, Hera Ashraf, Blanche L Wright, CIC Executive Director Charlie Wiles, Rabbi Dennis Sasso, Sharon Stoughton Jackson, 'Golden Hoosier' and CIC Interfaith Ambassador Awardee KP Singh, Sikhs Political Action Committee Gurinder Singh Khalsa, Indiana India Business Council Founder and President Raju Chinthala, Asian American Alliance Board Member Rupal Thakker Thanawala, Robbie Singh,  Parveen Kumar and Baljit Singh Oberio were among those present on the occasion.
After welcome address by Rev Jerry Zehr, president of the Carmel Interfaith Alliance, Interfaith Thanksgiving Service commenced. There prayers from different religions.
The Sikh choir was led by Bhagwinder Kaur and Hazoor Singh , for their participation. We thank Mayor Jim Brainard for his support and making November 19th, 2017, Dr Shahid Athar Day.
With benediction by Rabbi Dennis Sasso from Congregation Beth-El Zedeck the Thanksgiving Services concluded.
The Proclaimation read:
* Dr Shahid Athar has served Indiana as an Endocrinologist for over 45 years iscovering the Pituitary Hormone in 1972 with Dr Robertson
* Founding member of the Interfaith Alliance in Indianapolis, member of the Center for Interfaith Cooperation in Indianapolis, former president of the Islamic Society of Greater Indianapolis. His past affiliations include Interfaith Council for World Affairs, Foreign Relations Committee. He hosted Regional Islamic-Catholic Dialogure in 1996-2002.
*Winner of 1992 Jefferson Award, 2002 Bowen Award  from Indianapolis Medical Society For Community Services Golden Hoosier Award in 2015
* Dr Akhtar has worked tirelessly for interfaith understanding and cooperation throughout his  life. He has earned the honor and respect of all who have benefited from his excellent work.
* Now, therefore, I, James Brainard, Mayor of the City of Carmel, do hereby proclaim the 19th of November in the year 2017 as Dr Shahid Athar Day
Our sincere prayers for Dr. Athar's health and wellness. Congratulations to Dr. Athar for pioneering interfaith initiatives in Indianapolis and service to our community. Prayers by various faith groups were beautiful.
