CHANDIGARH: While the people of Punjab were busy celebrating Diwali, the criminals kidnapped a young girl and attempted rape on her in a moving car in Ludhiana. At the same time a gang of Youth Akali Dal workers killed a youth in Mansa.

The girl, who was thrown out of a car the next morning, continues to be in critical condition in hospital. Two accused taken into custody for kidnapping are from Nepal and Uttar Pradesh.

The youth killed in Mansa has been identified as Antardeep Singh(22) resident of Heerawala village in Mansa. The deceased reportedly objected to the visit of some youth of Khara to residence of Jasvir Kaur of Heerawala. He was killed in the scuffle when visiting youth shot him dead.Police has arrested three accused.

The Punjab Congress President Capt Amarinder Singh has taken the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son Deptu Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to task and flayed them for deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

A spokesman of Punjab Congress President said that a girl could be subjected to such a horrendous crime on Diwali night in the heart of Ludhiana, where police had claimed to have put up 200 nakas, shows the total lawlessness prevailing in the state.

The spokesman of Capt Amarinder Singh said that the criminal gangs were on the lose in the state and move freely, without fear of the law enforcement agencies, clearly indicating that they have the patronage of the state leadership, said PPCC leaders Avtar Henry, Amarjit Samra, Rana KP Singh and Tripit Rajinder Singh Bajwa, alleging wholesale criminalization of Punjab at the hands of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

Referring to the YAD attack on a youth, the PPCC spokesman said the brazen way in which the Akali workers had stabbed to death a youth who had dared to protest against their visit to some women in his village also showed the total breakdown of law and order in Punjab. “Young men get killed because they dare to raise their voice against immoral acts and crimes they see around them,” said the PPCC leaders, pointing out that two youth had recently lose their lives for speaking up against the liquor mafia.

In another instance, they observed that a journalist was murdered in cold blood by an Akali councilor. The Badal-led Akali government in the state seems to be in total connivance with the criminals, giving them a free run, said the PPCC spokesman.

The situation is so grave that even the Election Commission was forced to take cognizance of it and issued directives to ensure free and fair polls amid growing fears of violence during the elections. The PPCC leaders further pointed out that the incidence of crime and violence are growing by the day in the poll-bound state, which is in the grip of all kinds of mafia and criminal gangs.

The nexus between the police and the politicians of the ruling party has been totally exposed by such incidents, which seem to have plunged Punjab into a state of total anarchy, said the Punjab Congress.

Capt Amarinder Singh demanded immediate arrest of the guilty in both the cases reported on Monday and warned that the people of the state would rise in protest if action is not promptly taken against the culprits.
