Two women among four arrested for drug peddling

MOHALI : The Mohali police have arrested four drug peddlers, including two women, and recovered 260 gm of heroin from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Harkamal Kaur, Moneka from Nayagaon, Parveen Kumar, a resident of Chandigarh, and Taranjit Singh, a resident of Salamatpur village at Mullanpur.
Harkamal Kaur (21), who lives on the PGI campus in Sector 12, Chandigarh, works at a five-star hotel in the city. “We arrested her with 10 gm of heroin when she was on her way to Mohali on her Activa scooter to supply the drug to her customers,” said JS Teja, Mohali SP (D).
During interrogation, Harkamal Kaur confessed that she used to get the drug from Chandigarh and sell it in Mohali, said the police, adding that the youngster was nabbed at the Phase VI light point.
The police recovered 150 gm of heroin from Moneka (23) and Parveen Kumar, while Tarnjit Singh was carrying 100 gm of heroin.
Taranjit Singh, who works as a contractor, was arrested near Hoshiarpur village on the Chandigarh-Kurali road. “He was going to supply the drug to his clients at Kurali,” said the police.
Three cases have been registered against the accused at various police stations here. Harkamal Kaur has been booked under the NDPS Act at the Phase I police station while a case against Moneka and Parveen Kumar has been registered at the Nayagaon police station. A case has been registered against Taranjit Singh at the Mullanpur police station.
