School Principal, teacher arrested on charge of raping student

JARGON : The Principal and a teacher of a government school have been arrested by Jagraon police on the charge of raping a minor girl student.

Stating this Jagraon SSP Surjit Singh told mediapersons here on Thursday that the arrests were made on the statement of the victim girl recorded before the Duty Magistrate Manmohan Kaushik, Tehsildar Jagraon in the presence of her mother and the concerned village Sarpanch.
The preliminary enquiry of the case has been conducted by the SHO, Police Station, Hathoor and Sub-Inspector Rupinder Kaur in the presence of the victim’s parents and prominent residents of the village. She was then produced before the Duty Magistrate for recording her statement.
The alleged accused have been identified as Harjit Singh, the Punjabi teacher and Bharat Bhushan, the Principal of the school who were transferred to another school before the case came to light. A teacher of the school of the girl’s school had accused both teachers of allegedly raping the student while she was studying in Class 11 last year. The complainant had also alleged both conspired to abort the fetus after she became pregnant. An audio clip in support of allegations was also handed to the police.
An FIR against the alleged accused was registered at the Police Station, Hathoor on February 8, 2018 under sections 376, 120-B of the IPC, 3 and 4 of the POCSO (Prevention of Child from sexual offences Act), 3 of the SC/ST Act and 67 of the IT Act.
