NAWANSHAHR: With the arrest of three persons, the Behram police in association with CIA staff Nawanshahr, today claimed to have solved the blind murder case of a 45 year-old within few hours of committing of the crime.

ASP Banga Sartaj Chahal divulging the details during a press conference in Banga, said that on January 31, Jagtar Singh, a former sarpanch and resident of Phagwara, brought to the notice of SHO Behram Raj Kumar that while he, along with his friend Ramji Bansal,  was going towards the fields of Bansal on the Phagwara-Mukandpur Road, they spotted the dead body of a person lying in the bushes along the road. The body bore the strangulation marks by some rope. ASP said following this a case was registered under Sections 302, 34 and investigations launched. He along with DSP (D) Harvinder Singh and CIA incharge Surinder Chand, visited the spot, said the ASP, adding that the dead body was kept in civil hospital in Banga for identification.

The body was later identified as that of Ram Sunder, a resident of Amai Kajitola, police station Peero in district Aara of Bihar by his son Sandeep Chaudhary and other relatives. The relatives of the deceased told the police that the deceased who used to work in a fine switch factory in Phagwara, was involved in finance business and used to lend money to other migratory labourers on interest. On January 29 evening he had told that he was going to meet Lakshman Sharma, a resident of Bihar currently residing in Phagwara. However, deceased’s phone started coming switched off after 8 pm on that day. The relatives expressed apprehension that he might have killed by Lakshman Sharma and his friends.

ASP said that following this the police apprehended the accused Raj Kumar, Lakshman Sharma and Bablu Gupta, all migratory labourers currently residing in Phawara. As to motive behind the murder, the ASP said that while the accused Raj Kumar who was a cousin of the deceased, was annoyed with him for allegedly keeping a bad eye on his wife, Lakshman Sharma was angry with him as he (deceased) used to threaten him to take him to court for getting his money back. The accused then planned to eliminate him and on the evening of Jan 29, they called him to Lakshman’s residence on the pretext of returning him his money. Afterwards, they took him to Virkan village on the pretext of attending some party on their bicycles. On the way at a secluded place they made the deceased drink some liquor and then strangulated him with the help of plastic rope. After throwing his body near the bushes, they took away his purse and mobile phone etc. so as to conceal his identification. ASP said that the police have recovered the plastic rope used in the crime, cycle and broken mobile phone etc of the deceased. The accused are being produced in a court today, added the ASP.
