One dead and six injured in blast at junk yard

GURDASPUR: Panic gripped the village Barnalla when a huge blast occured in a Junk Yard today afternoon.One person was killed on the spot while other six were also got serious injuries in the blast. The injured were and rushed to Civil Hospital Gurdaspur. Those in critical condition were referred to Guru Nanak Hospital Amritsar.


Deceased was identified as Harpeet (38) alias Happy s/o Manna Masih of Daburi falling under P S Dorangala. While the other injured have been identified as Victor(8) and Dhuni (5) both sons of Vijay Resident of Barnalla who is the owner of the junk yard. Vijay (35) son of Khurshid lal resident of Barnalla,Sajjan (18) s/o Daniel r/o Daburi and Tarsem Masih (58) son of Dheera masih r/o Barnalla.

According to eye witness some scrap dealer sold scrap to Vijay and all are trying to put of the copper from the scrap. At once the scrap took blast and Harpreet Singh died on the spot. Eyewitness told that Tarsem singh hand was cut from the body. Even Vijay Son Dhuni may be lost his eyes because clouts of blood came out of it.

In this regard SSP Bhupinder Jeet Singh Virk told that Vijay kumar is the owner of the junk yard. And purchased some scrap from local scrap dealer. They are trying to push out the metal by hitting it with hammer and the blast occurred.

Virk said that we found that hammer from the top roof of the building. We have informed central forensic team which would came soon and verify the whole matter why the blast occurs

After getting information education minister Aruna chowdhary reached the civil hospital and insured the family members that govt will do every efforts to the treatment of injured. She said ex gratia grant would be released by Chief Minister from his funds and if he personally met with chief minister in this regard. While MLA of Gurdaspur Barindermeet Singh Pahra also paid condolences with the family members of deceased and told that every help would given to them.
