Full Court reference was held Himachal Pradesh HC to bid farewell to Justice Suryakant

SHIMLA: A Full Court reference was held today in High Court of Himachal Pradesh to bid farewell to Justice  Suryakant, the Chief Justice, on his elevation as Judge of the Supreme Court of India.

Born on 10/02/1962 in a middle class family in district Hisar of Haryana, he had his early education from his village school and did his Graduation from Government Post Graduate College, Hisar, in 1981. He earned his Bachelor degree in Law from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak in 1984, and started practising Law at the District Court, Hisar, and later shifted to Chandigarh in 1985 to practice in Punjab  Haryana High Court. He specialised in Constitutional, Service and Civil Matters.

He represented the various Universities, Boards, Corporations and Banks before earning the distinction of being appointed the youngest Advocate General of Haryana on January 09, 2000. He was designated as Senior Advocate in March, 2001. He held the post of Advocate General of Haryana till his elevation as Permanent Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court on 09/01/2004. He was appointed the Chief Justice of High Court of
Himachal Pradesh and assumed the charge of his office on 05/10/2018. The Registrar General Sh. Virender Singh conducted the proceedings of the Full Court reference.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary praised Justice Suryakant for his acumen, skill and dexterity in handling complicated legal issues and called him an outstanding judge in all respects and a legalist as well as pragmatist.

He said that judgments rendered by Justice Suryakant are testimony to the fact that he decides according to law and as a pragmatic Judge assesses the consequences of the judicial decisions to be rendered for their bearing on sound public policy. He admired him for his liberal attitude in dispensing justice to the underprivileged and vulnerable groups in the society.

Ld. Advocate General of Himachal Pradesh Ashok Sharma, Chairman of Bar Council of Himachal Pradesh Ramakant Sharma, President of HP High Court Bar Association  Rajiv Jiwan, and Assistant Solicitor General of India Rajesh Sharma also spoke on the occasion and praised Justice Suryakant in glowing terms and extended their good wishes to him.

While speaking on the occasion, Shri Suryakant, Hon’ble the Chief Justice, thanked his brother judges, members of the Bar, Judicial Officers, Officers and officials of the Registry for their affection and co-operation apart from those who spoke on the occasion.

Justice Kurien Joseph, former Judge of Supreme Court of India and former Chief Justice of High Court of Himachal Pradesh specially graced the occasion. Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, Justice Sureshwar Thakur, Justice Vivek Singh Thakur,  Justice Ajay Mohan Goel, Justice Sandeep Sharma and Justice Chander Bhusan Barowalia were also present on this occasion.Former judges of High Court of Himachal Pradesh, Justice KC Sood, Justice Kuldip Singh, Justice VK Sharma and Justice PS Rana were also present on the occasion.

Registrar Vigilance Dr. Baldev Singh, Mukesh Bansal, Secretary, High Court Legal Services Committe, Registrar (Judicial) Vikas Bhardwaj, Registrar (Rules) Ajay Mehta, District and Sessions Judge (Leave and Training) Shri Pawanjit Singh, CPC Mohit Bansal, Registrar Accounts Shri Devender Chopra, Registrar Establishment Smt. Poonam Mahajan, Members of Bar Association and employees of High Court Registry were present on the occasion. After Full Court reference, Guard of Honour by Himachal Pradesh Police was presented to Hon’ble the Chief Justice Suryakant.
