Controversial Shiv Sena leader Nishant Sharma stabbed five times, survives attack

ROPAR: The controversial self styled president of All India Shiv Sena (Hindu) Nishant Sharma, attacked in Ropar jail today allegedly by Sikh militants was stabbed five times in a bid to kill him. He however survived the attack.

Nishant who is on hit list of Sikh militants for his utterances against Sikh radicals was also given security cover by Punjab police. He was sentenced to four years of jail in a fraud case only yesterday by a Ropar court. He was lodged in a separate barrack where he was attacked at 5 AM in the morning when he was sleeping.

The police said that he was stabbed with knives by atleast five persons who allegedly broke open the lock of the barrack. Shiv sena leader was stabbed in abdoman, forehead, hand and neck. He was rescued by the security staff.

IG Prison V.Neerja and SSP Swapan Sharma visited the jail and hospital at 2 PM. SSP said no arrest has been made so far and an investigation is being made to identify the accsued. He said that the barrack was locked from outside and it is matter of investigation how the barrack was opened.

Resident of Kharar, Nishant Sharma who is self styled president of the Shiv Sena outfit is the same person who was once slapped in Chandigarh court complex by Jagtar Singh Hawara, a convict in Beant Singh murder case and parallel Jathedar of Akal Takht appointed by the Sikh radicals. Nishant had led a group to protest against Hawara during his appearance in the court. Nishant allegedly attacked Hawara who hit back.

Nishant faces many criminal cases. He was complainant in a bribery case against AIG Vigilance P.S.Sandhu but later turned hostile. Sandhu was arrested taking Rs.50,000 bribe to save Nishant in a case being probed by Sandhu.
