Total 1731 cases disposed off in National Lok Adalat, Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: Under the able guidance of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sh. Shiavax Jal Vazifdar, Chief Justice, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Patron-in-Chief,  State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Jaswant Singh, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Administrative Judge, Chandigarh Sessions Division, National Lok Adalat was organized in the District Court, Sector 43, Chandigarh, on Saturday.

Thirteen Benches headed by the serving Judicial Officers were constituted in the District Courts, Sector-43, Chandigarh. Criminal Compoundable cases, cases under Section 138 of N.I.Act, Bank Recovery cases, MACT Cases, Matrimonial Disputes, Labour Disputes, Arbitration matters, other Civil Cases, Municipal Matters and Traffic Challans were taken up and disposed off with the consent of the parties.

Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh, Sh.Balbir Singh, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh, Mr.Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh and Mr.Amarinder Sharma, Secretary, DLSA, Chandigarh also visited the benches of District Courts Complex, Chandigarh and pursued the cases for amicable settlement.

A total 1731 cases were disposed off in the National Lok Adalat which include 29 Criminal Compoundable cases involving an amount of Rs.25,900/-, 425 cases under Section 138 of N.I.Act involving an amount of Rs.6,03,59,269/-, 01 Bank Recovery Case involving an amount of Rs.1,22,403/-, 21 Motor Accident Claim cases involving an amount of Rs.79,55,000/-, 126 cases of labour disputes involving a settlement amount of Rs.3,06,270/, 10 Matrimonial/Family Disputes involving settlement amount of Rs.8,50,000/-, 75 Civil Suits and Rent Cases involving an amount of Rs.5,00,000/-, 31 Executions involving an amount of Rs.10,00,000/-, 01 Criminal Revision, 10 Criminal Misc., 122 Arbitration cases, 07 Civil Appeals, 26 Untrace, 37 Civil Misc. cases involving an amount of Rs.2,49,68,775/-, 05 cases of Guardian & Succession Act,  02 Criminal Appeals, 10 cases of 125 Cr.P.C., 05 cases of D.V. Act were disposed of, 145 Municipal Matters, 13 cases relating to Registrar of Companies Act and Shop Act Cases, 629 Traffic Challans were disposed of by imposing a fine of Rs.13,100/-, Rs.19,05,000/- and Rs.3,57,050/- respectively, 01 other Act Case and 369 cases involving an amount of Rs.1,67,81,287/- were disposed of by Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services).  In addition to this 26 pre-litigative cases involving an amount of Rs.18,21,500/- were also settled.   

Mr.Balbir Singh, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh, Mr.Mahavir Singh, Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh and Mr.Amarinder Sharma, Secretary, DLSA, Chandigarh, thanked the general public for making this Lok Adalat a success and further appealed to resolve their disputes through the Lok Adalats as it provided quick and economical justice.
