Sri Lankan Youth Delegates Visits RGNIYD RC Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: India and Sri Lanka are strategically positioned to achieve a quantum jump in bilateral partnership across different fields. Both the Government has taken a number of significant initiatives to strengthen the relationship for peace and prosperity based on mutual respect and understanding.

In this regard the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, GoI has invited and hosted 30 youth delegates from National Youth Services Council of Sri Lanka. On 13 September2017, the delegates headed by Mr Mahinda Talikoralage Assistant Director NYSC visited the RGNIYD Regional Centre Chandigarh to understand the diverse programmes, working mechanism, strategies for engaging young people, theories of change and impact of the RGNIYD programmes. Mr Stanzin Dawa Regional Director of RGNIYD RC delivered the welcome address followed by a presentation on RGNIYD and its programmes. In his address, he said “India and Sri Lanka has got immense potential not only to transform their respective countries but also provide assistance to other neighbouring countries to fulfil their aspirations.”

RGNIYD RC convenes a panel discussion on the theme “Where do you see Indo-SriLanka relations in the next 10 years? What would be the role of young people in shaping the bilateral relations? The panellists wereMr. Mohamed Haniffa Sri Lanka, Mr. Chathuranga Lakshan, Ms. Yshodha Lakmini and Mr. Hasan Yasiru Madusanka, Sri Lanka and Mr Dawa was the moderator. The panellists and delegates were optimists of a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable relations to fulfil the aspirations of the people and larger development goals of the country. The delegates appreciated the heads of the government for much-needed initiatives of bringing people closer through education, trade, commerce, sports, culture, technology, and youth. The delegates shared their experiences and good practices in youth development in Sri Lanka.
