Chandigarh:The punjab Governent has finally sanctioned Rs 25 crore for the widening of the Mohali-Fathegarh Sahib highway.

After getting approval from punjab chief minister Amarinder singh ,the Public work Department (PWD) has been  asked to expedite the process of acquiring near seven acres at a cost og Rs6 crore.

“Since the Kharar- Banur and Mohali-Chunni sections of the highway meet at the  Landran Junction, de-con-gesting the junction is a priorityfor the department. Shopkeepers on both sides of the road near the junction were resisting the widening of the road,” said PWD Minister  Vijay  Inder  Singla .

The total cost of the project will be equally borne by the greater Mohali Area  development Authority (GMADA) and the PWD. Though decide in march this year,  the decision on the sharing of the cost for land  acquisition by (GMADA) and the  PWD was delaying the project. Now the matter has been decided with the inervention of the chief minister .

The department has also been asked to straighten the bend in the road at the landran junction and provide slip roads.
