Justice Misra will inaugurate LAE in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH : Justice Deepak Misra, Judge, Supreme Court and executive chairman, National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) will inaugurate Legal Assistance Establishment (LAE) in Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana which are named as ‘Kanooni Saarthi, Nyaya Sahyog Kendar and Nyaya Sahog ‘on July 9. The LAE has been set up in the premises of the state legal authority.
Disclosing this Mr Mahavir Singh, member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh said that he would also inaugurate the new building of legal services authority of Punjab constructed in Mohali. Justice Misra would also talk to undertrials in Burail Jail through video conferencing. He further said that aimed at providing multiple services to legal aid seekers under one roof. It will function from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all working days.
Justice Misra will also interact with the para legal volunteers and panel advocates in the judicial academy Sector 43, Chandigarh. He will guide them as he had given a motto “Connect and Act,” which was adopted in the regional conference of North-West States held in Ahmedabad on May 27-28 last.
On the occasion, he will also launch a new audio song of NLSA “Akele nahin hein aap,” relating to the senior citizen and assistance offered to them by the SLSA under special scheme for them.
With inauguration of LAE, an endeavour has been fulfilled to connect to legal aid seeker with the district legal services authority or the panel advocate. Video conferencing will help the undertrial in jail to connect with and brief his/her advocate provided by the authority.
Besides other facilities, the authority has also provided helpline No 1516 along with a dedicated landline telephone and ID email.
Mr Mahavir Singh hopes that legal assistance establishment will go a long way in achieving the objective of access to justice
