Chandigarh airport closed for two weeks

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh International Airport at Moahli will remain closed for two weeks from Sunday, February 12 to 26 for runway upgradation, offical sources said today.

The official spokesman said that no flight will leave or arrive at the airport. The airport authorities had notified to passengers about the closure in last week of December 2017. About 4000 passengers travel from this airport everyday. The operations will resume on February 27. This is first time that airport has been closed for long period of two weeks after it started operation.

Chandigarh airport handles 28 flights everyday including three direct flights to Dubai, Sharjah and Bangkok. Daily flights are run to Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabada Jaipur, Delhi, Srinagar, Leh and Jammu.

The official spokesman siad that after upgradation of run way from 9000 feet to 10400 feet, the wide bodied aircrafts would be able to land and take off from here. The airlines would be able to operate flights to USAM Europe and Australia from Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, the passengers have shifted to other modes of transport like railway, deluxe buses and taxis to reach Delhi to get further flights. There is great rush on all trains running between Chandigarh and Delhi but no extra coaches are attached by railways.
