CBI arrests a Chandigarh based scientist of Central Ground Water Board in bribery case

CHANDIGARH: The Central Bureau of Investigation CBI) has arrested three persons,Sanjay Panday,Scientist-B, Central Ground Water Board, North Western Region,Bhujal Bhawan, Chandigarh, Chander Prakash Midha, Technician, Institute of Microbiology Technology, Chandigarh and Dinesh Kumar a private person in an alleged bribery of Rs. 1.5 lakh.  
This was stated by the spokesperson of the CBI today.He said a case was registered Under Section 120-B of IPC and Section 7, 12 & 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act (PC Act) 1988 against a Scientist-B, Central Ground Water  Board, North Western Region, Bhujal Bhawan, Chandigarh; a Technician, Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh; a private person and a representative of a private firm based in Gurgaon, on the allegations that the representative of said firm has applied for NOC/permission for extracting groundwater for industrial purpose.

 It was further alleged that after the recommendation of the accused, the application of the representative of the said firm was forwarded to the office of CGWA, Delhi. It was also alleged that an amount of Rs. 2 lakh as illegal gratification was agreed between the accused in lieu of a said favor. CBI laid a trap and caught Technician of said institute along with Scientist-B, CGWB, Chandigarh and a private person while offering and demanding/accepting an alleged bribe of Rs.1.50 lakh.

Searches were conducted at the premises of accused. A cash of INR 4 lakh (approx.); USD 500 (approx.) and Japanese Yen 36000 (approx.) along with other documents including property have been recovered from the residence of Scientist-B.

The arrested accused were produced today before the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Chandigarh and remanded to two days Police Winners professional Angad Cheema and his team.
