After Majithia apology episode, The Tribune replaces Trust President S.S.Sodhi with N.N.Vohra

CHANDIGARH:The Tribune Trust has replaced its  Justice S.S.Sodhi(Retd) with N.S.Vohra former Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. The decision was reportedly taken in the Tribune Trust meeting held on November3, the announcement of which was made today's issue of The Tribune.

The sources said that the members of Trust of The Tribune Trust and Editor-in-Chief of The Tribune were upset over publishing of an apology and giving clean chit to former minister and SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia against whom The Tribune and other newspapers had published stories of his alleged involvement in drug racket. The Tribune has written in the apology that no evidence is found against Majithia and charges are false.

The apology published on front page of The Tribune with picture of Majithia had created flutter in media circles and The Tribune was criticised for bowing before the Majithia. No other newspaper had published any apology though same content was published mainly statements of former cop Jagdish Bhola who called Majithia kingpin of the drug trade in Punjab. The Tribune and other newspapers had also carried reports of summons issued to Majithia by Ebforcement Directorate and subsequent questioning in drug related case.

It is learnt that The Tribune Editor-in-Chief had opposed the apology but it was reportedly published under the orders of Justice S.S.Sodhi(retd).

In a message to staff members, N.N.Vohra said thatThe Tribune Group of Newspapers must remain torally committed to the pursuit of highest journalistic values and to the promotion of sterling civic virtues and ethical standards.
