World meet on education kicks off at Rayat Bahra University

MOHALI: The two-day 6th World Conference `EDUCON 2017’ of Global Educational Research Association (GERA) on `Education: A Mirror of Society’ got off  to a grand start at the University School of Education, Rayat Bahra University, here today.

Dr Saamdu Chetri, Executive Director, Gross National Happiness (GNH) Centre, Bhutan, who was the Chief Guest at the conference, said the purpose of the Centre is to manifest in living practice Bhutan’s balanced development philosophy of Gross National Happiness (GNH), which seeks to integrate equitable and sustainable socio-economic development with environmental conservation, cultural promotion and good governance.
Dr SP Malhotra, Regional President, GERA, dwelt on tips for providing leadership to achieve the objectives of GERA to develop and promote educational research. The Conference explored the possibility of new reforms of learning and teaching in multidiscipline of education.

He said the Conference is a prestigious international event where the resource persons from different countries - Bhutan, Bangkok, Switzerland and Abu Dhabi and around 250 delegates from different countries including Kenya, Nigeria, Afghanistan, Bhutan and from different states, union territories of India - Karnataka, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh etc. got together and interacted and deliberated upon the issues related to teaching learning and research through dialogue method. Gurvinder Singh Bahra Chairman of the group also shared his views on the topic.

Raj Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University, said subthemes of the conference included Research, [Innovation and Creativity in Education- Contribution to the Society; Equity and Equality of Opportunities in Society- Initiation and Challenges; Rethinking and Redefining Education for the Changing Society; Global Trends in Teacher Education-Changing Roles of Teachers and their education; and Transforming Educational Institutions: A need and Requirement.

 Dr Indu Rihani dean university school of education said during the conference, keynote speeches, plenary sessions by the experts and papers will be presented by the delegates in the five subtheme sessions and one virtual session will be done through Skype.

GERA is a society with an objective to develop and promote educational research, to provide an international forum for discussion of problems related to educational research, to conduct workshops, seminars, conferences etc, to disseminate findings of research, to publish journals, monographs and other types of literature.
