Workshop on Cognitive Skills, Design & Critical Thinking was organised at PU Physics dept

CHANDIGARH: Institution Innovation Council (IIC) and Design Innovation Centre (DIC), Panjab University, organized its first workshop on ‘Cognitive Skills, Design and Critical Thinking’ was organized on Tuesday at Physics department. Under this initiative, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Prof. Raj Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion.

Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India, has established MHRD’s Innovation Cell (MIC) to systematically nurture the culture of innovation amongst all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). MIC has envisioned creation of Institution’s Innovation Council (IICs) across selected HEIs with Panjab University being one of them.

ProfRaj Kumar in his address motivated the audience to not be job seekers, but job providers. He also shared his experiences stressing upon failures to not be roadblocks but rather a learning opportunity. Prof. Lalit Das from Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Kanpur and Prof. Braj Bhushan honorary faculty at Department of Design, Delhi Technical University were the speakers for the event.

Prof. Bhushan spoke on the topic ‘Cognitive Skills and Innovations’. He advocated that the best part of learning comes when one goes beyond the box and talked about Assistive Device for Children with Dyslexia & Dysgraphia. He suggested that as a designer one needs to have a holistic view.

Prof. Das sensitized the gathering on the topic of Design Thinking, laying emphasis on the awareness of technological advancements and the importance of enhancing user experience.

He stressed that user experience is of prime importance as it covers a wider range of views, including the limitations imposed on ourselves by ourselves, society and others.
