Lohri Celebrated at Khalsa Institutions

AMRITSAR: The festival of Lohri was today celebrated with fervour at Khalsa College Amritsar (KCA), Khalsa College of Education (KCE) and other educational institutions here. The message of honouring the girl child was highlighted at Khalsa College as the girls broke into dance and singing of the folk.

Principal Dr. Mehal Singh stressed on need to educate girls to make them self reliant. The students clad in colourful traditional dresses girls resorted to dance and singing at KCE also where the festival was dedicated to the `youth day’ today. Principal Dr. JS Dhillon said the society need to change its mindset and girl education is must for building the just society.

He said in recent times the Lohri for the girls is being celebrated which is a good sign as the society otherwise is discriminatory to the females. The festival was also celebrated at Khalsa College of Nursing where Principal Neelam Hans ignited the fire and the girl students resorted to the traditional dance Gidda to the tunes of folk songs.

Dr.Mehal Singh earlier said that as per the tradition of the College the Lohri was celebrated with enthusiasm and they made it a point that the inherent message of stressing upon the girls education was highlighted. The Staff members, students were present during all the functions.
