ROPAR : A two-day international conference on Advancements in Science and Technology ICAST 2017 sponsored by DRDO and PSCST got off to a grand start at the University School of Sciences, Rayat Bahra University, here on Thursday.
The main objective of the conference is to provide a forum where distinguished academicians, researchers and scholars together and interact in order to explore the upcoming developments in the field of science and technology and to promote collaborative research work among research institutes, universities and industries.
The Chief guest Prof. R.K Sinha, Director, CSIO, Chandigarh, inaugurated the conference along with Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chairman of the Rayat Bahra Group, vice –chancellor of RBU Dr Raj Singh & Ms harvinder kaur deputy dean,university school of sciences.

Dr. R.K. Sinha spoke about the role of scientific instrumentation in improving the life quality. He said that the science of today is the technology of tomorrow and the instruments are all about outcome of trans-disciplinary approach of science and technology for the betterment of human life. He highlighted the various inventions and innovations developed in India to make life easier for specially abled persons.
He elaborated that even in the medical field, advancement in instrumentation had improved the quality of life by treating patients.
Dr. Jatinder Kaur Arora said that science advancements must be used in context of sustainability and harmony. She said that In India 38 CSIR centers were active for scientific findings and 15,000 scientists were working. She insisted that it was the necessity of time to nurture the talent in the field of biotechnology.
She also talked about the role of science and technology for specially abled persons. She said that there was a strong need to change our attitude towards the disabled persons; we must enhance their unique capabilities, and help them in overcoming the difficulties in their routine life.
Dr. Raj Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rayat Bahra University, highlighting the importance of the conference said it would not only provide a useful forum to the participants to share their expertise for extending collaboration in different disciplines but also is also professionally beneficial to them as it broadens their horizon of research.Dr. Prince sharma, Scientist , DRDO, Chandigarh enlightened about the ‘Dynamic behavior of materials under ballistic & hyperactivity impact’.
Prof. A. S. Ahluwalia, talked about the potential of microbial photoautotroph as source of Nutraceutical and bio-fuel. Ms harvinder kaur deputy dean also share her views on this topic.
