Exhibition of masks at Rayat Bahra Varsity

MOHALI: His Excellency Mr Joao Da Camara , the ambassador of Portugal to India, was accorded a memorable welcome on his arrival at the Rayat Bahra University here on Tuesday. He had come to inaugurate an exhibition of traditional Portuguese masks at the Rayat Bahra University campus.
Speaking on the occasion, he said the exhibition had been organized to mark Europe day, which is an annual celebration of peace and unity in Europe.
He said the Europe Day involves all of the citizens of the EU because it celebrates the declaration delivered on May 9, 1950 by Robert Schuman. On that day five years after the end of the Second World War French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman made the initial appeal for the construction of Europe.he also interacted with members of faculty and students.
This declaration announced the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). During the European Council in Milan in 1985 the heads of State and government decided to set May 9 as "Europe Day". Celebrated each year since 1986, Europe Day is the occasion for events and celebrations that draws Europe closer to citizens, he added.
The exhibition was an instant hit with both the faculty members and students of the rayat Bahra University who evinced keen interest in the huge variety of masks on display.Mrs Joao Da Camara was also part of this event.
Dr Raj Singh, vice-chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University, accorded a warm welcome to the visiting dignitary.
The exhibition would remain open for seven days.
