Avinash Rai Khanna inaugurates CRCS at Rayat Bahra

MOHALI: Avinash Rai Khanna, Vice-Chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society, formally inaugurate the Centre for Red Cross Studies (CRCS) the centre at the Rayat Bahra University today.

Khanna who was the chief guest at the function, said that more and more students should volunteer to work for social welfare. The Centre for Red Cross Studies as per the objects of Memorandum of Understanding signed between RBU and the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS).

 Prof (Dr) Raj Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the Rayat Bahra University, said the RBU in association with the Indian Red Cross Society has planned to start post graduate diploma in disaster management. He said that the aim of the Rayat Bahra University is to inculcate moral qualities in the students. The ultimate aim of education is to serve the society at large.

CS Talwar, Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State branch, said that our country is prone to man-made and natural disasters and this programme will enhance the knowledge and skills of youth in managing these disasters.

Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor of the RBU and Chairman of the Rayat Bahra Group of Institutions, underlined the importance of blood donation. He disclosed that the university planned to start many new courses and research projects jointly with the Indian Red Cross Society.

All the deans of the university were present on the occasion. Dr Neena Mehta, Dean of the University School of Medical and Allied Sciences and Nodal Officer of the Centre, said that this year around 200 students had been trained by Red Cross to give first aid and they were awarded certificates.
